A new archway in The Wild Borders and the frost has arrived…

Hello and welcome back to my blog 🙂

The frost has arrived here and we are waiting for some snow in the next few days!

Today’s post is a shorter one, showing you another archway the Mr and I installed in the newly dug bed in The Wild Borders at the end of December 2024 and the next steps to be taken.

The new bed in The Wild Border

You’ll recall that the right-side bed is one I dug all the japanese honeysuckle and the crocosmia out from in December 2024; blog post about that here: Clearing a new bed in The Wild Borders

Before and after

As a reminder, here is the transition of the bed from March 2023 to December 2024:

You’ll recall that the left-side border already has a series of archways leading to an arbour seat:

The new archway

We have used the same arch to repeat the same design across the two beds, to help unite them:

The top right corner of the bed still has a mound of earth that will need digging out (arrowed in the photo below):

To my eye, that corner is crying out for a destination point… More details of that to follow in due course 🙂

I also have various new bare root roses and a clematis to plant in The Wild Borders, but now that the frost has arrived for the next week or so, I will wait until the temperature rises again before planting them out.

As a reminder, the bare root roses I purchased and potted up a few months ago were mentioned in this blog post: Is it Winter already? A blanket of snow, sheltering indoors from the frost and destructive storm Bert… You’ll find a list of the rose varieties in that post.

The Mr and I will also need to spend an afternoon at some point drilling out and fitting the wire support for the climbing rose that will grow on the back wall of the right-side border (pictured in the photo above).

That’s all for today’s short post. I’ll hopefully be able to take more action once the cold weather passes. I still have other plans I will be working on soon in other areas of the garden.

Happy gardening 🙂
