Hello and welcome back to my blog!
Today’s post is a brief update on how the cherry tomatoes are growing on and showing you the start of some maintenance in the garden.
I first wrote about sowing and growing the cherry tomatoes here: Growing cherry tomatoes outside in grow bags
Cherry tomatoes
Despite what the weather forecast in recent weeks, Autumn feels to have announced its arrival in the UK, (at least for now) and in the last few days the first of my cherry tomatoes have started to turn red.
The tomatoes have put on plenty of growth since I planted them out in large grow bags in July 2024 and they have produced huge bunches of tomatoes. I never feed my tomatoes with tomato feed, I just plant them in compost and leave them to get on with it.
Here is a comparison showing what they looked like after planting and a photo from the end of August 2024:

I’ll be harvesting the tomatoes as they ripen over the coming weeks. I have also picked tomatoes in the green before and left them to ripen on a warm windowsill in the past, which has worked well. In any event, you can’t beat the taste of home grown tomatoes 🙂
I am also going to try my hand this year at keeping a few tomatoes aside to save some seeds for next year.
Autumn maintenance jobs
I also made a start on a warm and dry evening on a maintenance job in the garden; this involved repointing part of the pathway that leads to the greenhouse.
The paths throughout the garden need weeding and repointing, which is a huge task. I’m hoping to work on this section by section, as the weather allows over the coming months.
Here is how the path looked before weeding:

And after weeding:

And after repointing – what a difference!

As you can see, I didn’t move all the pots and do all of the gaps, just the main pathway for now, as I only had a few hours to spare one evening. I will go back when I can and finish off the area/do some more.
You also might notice that the paving slabs are slightly different colours. The Mr and I may need to look into power washing the slabs in the future when time allows.
If you made it to the end of this post, thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed seeing what I have been getting up to. There’s lot more to come over the Autumn 🙂
Happy gardening 🙂
